1940 – 2958

In June of 1946, I met Celestine at her age of 6 or 7 in the residence of her grandparents in Mexico City whom she was visiting with her family. There was an English speaking Dutch couple in the home also at the time who were family friends of the elder de Kanters. To my amazement, Celestine and her older sister Jeanette were often asked by the couple to accompany them upon leaving the home to translate for them from Spanish to English and vice versa which Cely and Jeanette readily did.
Since those early years, Cely has kept in touch with me through visits, phone, internet, and many family gatherings of Favrots and de Kanters. I will miss her thoughtfulness and endearing personality.

My deepest sympathy,
Ellen de Kanter
