1994 – 2018
My husband David and I shared many experiences with Cely, including travels in Mexico, India and Nepal.
We went to India with my mother and Cely’s mother, and spent one week together traveling in a private railroad car. Cely insisted on David going to the Station Master each night to make sure our car was hooked up to the correct train in the morning. Cely did speak Hindi, but said they would ignore her if a man was not present.
The three of us proceeded to trek in Nepal. One day, after watching the women stagger up the mountain sides with 6 foot high stacks of wood, Cely observed the men sitting around a ‘tea room,’ and she asked why the women were doing all the work while the men just sat around. Our head Sherpa looked at Cely severely and said, ”The men are thinking.” Cely was not amused.
So many fond memories of Cely and how much she contributed to the richness of our lives.
We loved her.
